Fifth Avenue is quite a big avenue which goes through the borough of Manhattan in New York City. It stretches from West 143rd Street in Harlem to Washington Square North which is found at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village. Fifth avenue is known as the most expensive and one of the best shopping streets around the world.

Fifth Avenue was originated at Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village and runs north through the centre of Midtown, along the eastern side of Central Park, where the boundary of the Upper East Side is formed and through Harlem, where it terminates at the Harlem River at 142nd Street. Traffic cross the river on the Madison Avenue Bridge. Fifth Avenue serves as the dividing line for numbering houses and west-east streets in Manhattan. 

The section of Fifth Avenue which crosses Midtown Manhattan, especially between 49th Street and 60th Street, which is lined with known shops and is ranked among the most expensive shopping streets around the world. For many years, starting in the mid-1990s, the shopping district between 49th and 57th Streets was ranked as having the world’s most expensive retail spaces on a cost per square basis.

Fifth Avenue, in 2008, was ranked as being the most expensive street in the word in the Forbes magazine. The penthouses perched on top of the buildings are some of the most coveted real estates on Fifth Avenue.
